Virtual Book Club – With Friends

One of my favorite things to do when I was younger was getting lost in a good book. Before going to college I had plenty of time in school and at home to deep dive into hundreds of novels and loved comparing notes with my friends and family. Unfortunately as I got older and other responsibilities started to stack up reading took the back burner – for years. That was until one of my old friends from elementary school brought up the idea of starting a book club, just the two of us, during one of our regular video calls. And that was the beginning of our Virtual Book Club.

At first it started out pretty simple. We would take a few weeks to read a couple of chapters and then meet up for a video call whenever we could find the time, but recently my friend introduced me to a site called The StoryGraph and not only can we do what’s called buddy reads and track our progress on each book together (plus add notes so we don’t forget everything we want to talk about before we have a chance to tag up again) but it can also act as a to read list, track progress on all books you are reading, provides recommendations for new books, and tracks all of your stats so you can see how many books you read over the past year. This has actually really helped me get back on track to reading even more outside of just what we cover in our Virtual Book Club.

If you currently host a Virtual Book Club, would like to start one, or just love reading I would highly recommend trying out StoryGraph. Even if you just use it to set a reading goal for the year it is worth it. Plus it is very satisfying to see all of the stats on the books you’ve read such as the trends for what genres you are reading more of and how close you are to hitting your reading goal for the year. As a side note I am not compensated in any way by StoryGraph. I just really like their product! If you would like to connect with me to see what I’m reading you can find me at modernmama on StoryGraph, and if you have any recommendations for any good books I should add to my list definitely let me know. Until then happy reading!

I’m Michelle

I think life is all about making special moments. Since having our little one this has become a little harder but it has also given me even more reason to go all out in parenting, date nights, self-care, and traveling the world with the people I love. I am always looking for new ideas on how to improve in all of these areas so I hope these posts will also serve as inspiration for you as you search for ways to make your own special moments.
